Jesus Reyes Eroles was a Spanish writer and journalist born in Madrid on November 18, 1904, and died in Paris on January 3, 1988. He began studying law, but abandoned his studies to become a journalist, working for a number of Spanish newspapers. He was a member of the Generation of 27, a group of Spanish poets, writers, and artists who came to prominence in the 1920s and 30s. He participated in the Spanish Civil War as a Republican, later going into exile in France after the Nationalist victory. His literary work includes novels, essays, and plays, often dealing with social and political themes. Eroles was a critic of the Franco regime and wrote extensively about the repression and human rights abuses that occurred in Spain during that period. He is considered one of the most important voices of Spanish literature of the 20th century.
